Now that you know what water erosion is and have researched Hammonasset Beach State Park and its erosion issues, it's time to make a decision- Should something be done?
The first phases of the Hammonasset beach resoration project are currently underway. In today's very challenging economic times, many people may question the decision to put so much time, energy, and especially, money into this cause when there are so many people struggling.
Write a persuasive letter to the general public convincing them why this project is or is not a good decision and use of our resources. Remember to apply all of what you have learned about persuasive writing and to support your ideas with research from this WebQuest. You may return back to any of the resources at any time. Click the page Organizer under the Evaluation tab to print an organizer to help you plan for your ideas. Also, follow the format below when creating your paragraphs:
Paragraph 1 (Introduction)- Introduce the issue, clearly explain what water erosion is and how it occurs, and state your opinion.
Paragraphs 2-4 (Body)- In each body paragraph, clearly state a reason in support of your decision as well as 3 supporting details for each reason from your research.
Paragraph 5 (Conclusion)- Paraphrase the issue, summarize you main points, & paraphrase your opinion.
You will be assessed according the persuasive writing rubric (which can be found by clicking on the Rubric page under Evaluation), so be sure to refer to this as you plan, draft, revise, and edit your letter.
