Now that you know what water erosion is and what it does, it's time to learn more about Hammonasset Beach. As you navigate through these resources, don't forget to think back on what you saw and learned in our November field trip. Did you see any evidence of erosion?
First, skim through the official CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection's Hammonasset website: DEP Hammonasset Pay particular attention to the Overview section.
Next, watch this CPTV video that's part of its National Parks series to see many reasons why Hammonasset is such a popular recreational and tourist destination. CPTV Hammonasset

At this point, please pause your journey to reflect on why Hammonasset is such an important place to so many. Turn and talk to you partner(s) about this and then record your thinking in your science journal.
Now it's time to get to the root of the erosion problem. Check out the following links to various news articles that describe the damage. Note the dates on the articles: WTNH report #1 WTNH report #2 New Haven Register Shoreline Times (Is there hope?)
So as you can see, erosion is a big problem and one that potentially threatens both the beach as a recreational site and the wildlife in the surrounding environment. See the links below to various news articles and/or formal reports that were filed detailing the problem as well as what is to be done about it:
